What We Do
Every Individual has unique talents and challenges… our mission at New Horizons (NH) is to provide opportunities to build the skills each of our Patrons need to meet their maximum potential. A typical day at New Horizons blends work activities with academics, functional skills and social training for a holistic approach to meet the needs of each individual. Our expectations of success, coupled with staff interaction and positive learning environment help our Patrons build knowledge and skills that promote self-esteem, confidence and personal independence. |
Our “Live Healthy” program focuses on the physical and emotional well-being of our Patrons. We strive to improve health and wellness, enhance social skills and strengthen interpersonal relationships through social and recreational opportunities.
Activities include:
New Horizons offers a wide variety of social, recreational and sports activities that build confidence and self-esteem as well as skills for successful interpersonal relationships. We at New Horizons believe that every activity is an opportunity for learning. Every Activity is an Opportunity for Learning |
Our “Live Independently” Program offers a unique balance of work related training, functional skill building as well as opportunities for socialization with peers and interaction within our community. Our focus is increasing knowledge, building skills and empowering our Patrons to live as independently as possible.
We build self-esteem, work independence and increase job-readiness skills through vocational training and employment opportunities. Our Patrons learn a variety of employable vocational skills including retail services, house-keeping and grounds keeping. We offer a variety of goods and services to the public which lends to our self-support, raising the majority of our income each year. NH Resale Shop provides employment, and vocational training while connecting our Patrons directly to the community. New Horizons holds a "Special Worker Certification" from the U.S. Department of Labor enabling NH to pay commensurate wages to our patron employees. Prior to employment at NH, many of our patrons had never received a paycheck. While building skills and knowledge, these ladies and gentlemen demonstrate clearly that our citizens with developmental disabilities are productive members of our community.
